Gionee has launched its Elife S7 smartphone in India today. The device was originally announced at the MWC 2015 in Barcelona and is amongst the slimmest smartphones in the world, with a thickness of only 5.5 mm, same as Gionee’s Elife S5.5 smartphone. The Elife S7 will be priced at Rs. 24,999 and will be available both online and offline.
The phone is a mid-level flagship smartphone that runs on a 1.7 GHz MediaTek MT6752 octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM. It has a 5.2 inch 1080p AMOLED display, with Gorilla Glass on both sides. There is also 16GB of internal storage, which is not expandable. The S7 also has a 13MP camera on the back, along with an 8MP camera on the front. The battery stands at 2750 mAh, which according to Gionee will run for two days. The company has also added a power saving mode, which kicks in when you're left with 10% battery and offers a battery life of 33 hours, says Gionee.
Further, the Elife S7 comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box, layered with Gionee’s custom Amigo UI. It’s available in Black, White and Blue colours. The device also supports both TDD-LTE and FDD-LTE bands and is a dual-SIM smartphone.
This is the third device by Gionee, that has been entered in the slimmest phones category. The company had earlier launched the Elife S5.5 mentioned above and the Elife S5.1. In fact, the latter was the slimmest phone in the world, before being dethroned by the Oppo R5 and Vivo X5Max smartphones.
Gionee has been putting a lot of money into its business in India. The company announced that it would be sponsoring some important events this year, while also becoming the official sponsor for the Kolkata Knight Riders IPL cricket team. In addition, the company also announced that it would be setting up an R&D center in India this year, while it is also looking at manufacturing in the country, in future.
