Microsoft and Dropbox have teamed up to make it easier for consumers to edit Office documents online. This integration will allow users to edit Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents in Dropbox, using Office Online on the web. This feature is now available to all.
According to Office Blogs, users who wish to use this new feature will have to click on the Open button when they are previewing a Word, PowerPoint or Excel file from Dropbox on the web, and can then edit the file right from the browser using Office Online. Apart from being able to access and edit files in Dropbox, users will also be able to save new files to Dropbox without leaving Office Online.

This integration comes in a year after Microsoft and Dropbox announced a strategic partnership, which gave users the ability to edit Office documents from Dropbox’s mobile app, along with the ability to access Dropbox documents from Office apps.
TechCrunch points out that this change is quite ‘notable’ because up until now, consumers were using a web-based version of Office and did not have the option to edit online when previewing files in Dropbox.
